Success Stories of the sustainable food project

Angashi

is a handicapped farmer in the mountains of northern Ethiopia. With the help of his family he has been able to develop a business selling seed of the new disease tolerant varieties. He has become successful because the Ethiopian Sustainable Food Project, working with Ethiopian agricultural researchers, helped him obtain disease-free starter seed of the improved varieties.

Adama

even though he only has a small amount of high mountain land to support his family, has worked with his neighbors to increase production of the improved potato varieties. The new varieties yield up to five times more than the old local varieties of potatoes. Thus with a little help from the Ethiopian Sustainable Food Project he is able to produce extra potatoes to sell as seed to neighbors and others.
